Two days of Family
A reportage about turbo mothers, long-distance fathers and euro orphans
It is estimated that between 400,000 and 700,000 Hungarians are employed abroad in the EU. What is a balm for the economy in Western countries is a bloodletting for Hungary. But what is behind the figures, what does this mean socially and societally?
We followed a family torn apart by labor migration. While the father works as a construction worker in Germany, the mother raises their six children alone in the village of 800 inhabitants.
We spent four days in the village and got to know the unknown side that remains hidden in Western countries. We followed the mother to her workplace, visited the children at school, asked around the village and got an idea of what it actually means to live in a place that offers hardly any prospects. And in the end, a surprising twist awaited us.
